Mr. Cheatham is in his 9th year of teaching at King George Middle School where he serves as the Director of Bands, and also as an Assistant Director to the King George High School Royal Regiment Marching Band. Mr. Cheatham graduated cum laude from Virginia Tech in 2014 and again in 2015. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Music Education and Trumpet Performance, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction. These degrees were supervised by Dr. Vernon Burnsed, Dr. Jason Crafton, and Dr. Kelly Parkes, respectively. He was the 2015 recipient of the "Most Outstanding Student in Music Education" award from the Virginia Tech School of Education. He was also selected as the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year for King George Middle School.
Mr. Cheatham has performed in several prestigious venues including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC and Carnegie Hall in New York City. He was also a featured soloist at the 2021 Virginia Tech Trumpet Festival and can be heard on the Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble's 2014 album entitled Another Reason to Celebrate.
